LunchMoney Lewis Bills lyrics

I got bills I gotta pay
So I'm gonna work, work, work everyday
I got mouths I gotta feed,
So I'm gonna make sure everybody eats
I got bills!

All these bills pile up my desk
They looking like a Mount Everest
All the little kids run around
I can hear their stomachs growl
It's a full moon out
And my girl just keep on howling
she said she gonna leave me
if I don't come home with fifty thousand

God damn, god damn, god damn, god damn
Oh man, oh man, oh man, oh man
God damn, oh man, god damn, oh man

I got bills I gotta pay
So I'm gonna work, work, work everyday
I got mouths I gotta feed
So I'm gonna make sure everybody eats
I got bills

Woke up and I bumped my head
Stubbed my toe on the edge of the bed
Opened the fridge and the food all gone
Neighbor damn dog done crapped on my lawn
Hopped in the car and the car won't start
It's too damn hot but I still gotta walk
Behind an old lady in the grocery line
Praying that my card don't get declined

God damn, god damn, god damn, god damn
Oh man, oh man, oh man, oh man
God damn, oh man, god damn, oh man

I got bills I gotta pay
So I'm gon' work, work, work every day
I got mouths I gotta feed
So I'm gon' make sure everybody eats
I got -!

And my shoes, my shoes
I said my shoes!
Ain't got no sole

I got bills I gotta pay
So I'm gonnna work, work, work every day
I got mouths I gotta feed
So I'm gonna make sure everybody eats

I got bills I gotta pay
So I'm gonna work, work, work every day
I got mouths I gotta feed
So I'm gonna make sure everybody eats
I got bills.

Mama got bills
Yo daddy got bills
Yo sister got bills
Yo auntie got bills
Yo uncle got bills
I got bills
Everybody got bills! Everybody got bills!

Overview

"Bills" is Gamal “Lunchmoney” Lewis's first single as a lead artist, though he has been working as a songwriter in the industry for years. The song is an up-tempo hip-hop ode to the struggles of the working class, namely, paying bills. As the artist explained on The Tonight Show, the song came to life during a songwriting session between Lewis, Ricky Reed, and Jacob Kasher. When Reed played the beat that would become the foundation for the song and Lewis sang "I got bills," Lewis describes the group's reaction as "a good feeling." They knew they had a hit.

The single launched in February 2015, and has since risen to #1 in Australia and has received more than 30 million views on Youtube so far. On the song's popularity, Lewis cites the conversation that his lyrics have sparked among single mothers, students with school loans, and all working class families struggling every day to pay their bills. The lyrics in the song focus on many of the common bills that families need to pay as they struggle to get by, including food for the kids, maintenance on the car, and credit cards on the verge of being declined.

A common refrain in interviews with the singer is that, given the unmitigated success of the song, Lewis won't have any trouble paying his bills in the future. The singer's response is that more money means bigger bills, a sentiment that precisely fits the song's down-to-earth vibe.
